Information Extraction from Product Labels: A Machine Vision Approach

The International Journal of Artificial Intelligence & Applications (IJAIA)

My first research paper, "Information Extraction from Product Labels: A Machine Vision Approach," co-authored with Vinayak Elangovan at Pennsylvania State University. Our study presents a unique approach to enhancing text recognition by combining Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) into a Convolutional Recurrent Neural Network (CRNN) and integrating it with Tesseract OCR.

This research aims to improve accessibility for the visually impaired by automating the extraction and recognition of information from product labels. We demonstrate the potential of machine learning and optical character recognition (OCR) technologies in streamlining the extraction of vital information from product packaging. This publication is a significant milestone in my career, showcasing the intersection of advanced machine vision techniques and practical applications.
